Everything the tee sheet knows about Bay Area public golf in one place: what a round costs, how fast tee times disappear once they go on sale, where weekend prime time is nearly gone, which courses are the best value per dollar, and the live deals below market right now — all from the booking systems the courses themselves use.
Availability, value & deals update live with every scrape (last read September 2 at 7:05 AM PT); price levels and booking velocity are fixed editions (July 2026 and August 2026). All data licensed CC BY 4.0 — free to cite with a link.
The price picture is fixed as a citable snapshot — 35,385 bookable tee times at 119 public courses, collected July 5, 2026 straight from the booking systems the courses use. Not rack rates: the real prices you could book.
Lake Tahoe's resort courses top the table and the coastal counties carry the famous-name premium. The value belt runs inland: Sacramento, Napa's municipal side, and the North Bay all post medians under $50.

Frozen August 2026 edition · 577,100 inventory snapshots over 30 days (July 12 – August 10, 2026) · 6,906 complete booking series
Every other chapter here is a photograph. This one is the film: since July we have logged what every course’s tee sheet looked like at each scrape, so we can follow the same Saturday morning as it fills up and answer the only question that actually decides your weekend — how long do you have to decide?
Across every course and daypart, bookable 18-hole inventory falls −15.2% between six days out and the night before. What is striking is the shape: it is almost a straight line, roughly −3% a day, with no cliff. There is no magic hour when the tee sheet suddenly goes — it drains steadily, which means every day you wait costs you about the same slice of what is left.
| Days ahead | Bookable 18-hole slots | Change vs 6 days out |
|---|---|---|
| 6 | 111,912 | — |
| 5 | 108,597 | −3% |
| 4 | 105,246 | −6% |
| 3 | 101,716 | −9.1% |
| 2 | 98,380 | −12.1% |
| 1 | 94,948 | −15.2% |
That gentle −3%-a-day slope is an artifact of averaging a scarce product with an abundant one. Split the weekend by time of day and the two behave nothing alike: weekend prime time (7–11am) loses −38.7% of its inventory over those five days, while twilight loses just −8.8%.
| Weekend daypart | Change, 6 days → 1 day | Slots 6 days out | Slots 1 day out | Series |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Prime (7–11am) | −38.7% | 5,313 | 3,257 | 467 |
| Dawn (before 7am) | −37.9% | 811 | 504 | 194 |
| Midday (11am–3pm) | −20.5% | 11,973 | 9,516 | 644 |
| Twilight (3pm+) | −8.8% | 13,541 | 12,352 | 661 |
Put plainly: of the weekend prime slots on offer six days out, only about 61 in 100 are still there the night before. Twilight is a different market — it is still there when you are, which is exactly why it stays cheap (see the −34.5% twilight discount in the price chapter). Weekends drain faster than weekdays overall (−19% vs −13.9%), but the daypart split is the far bigger effect.
The obvious counter-strategy is to hold out for a late discount. The data says do not bother. Following the same tee sheets over the same five days, the median price barely moves at any daypart — the largest swing anywhere is −0.7% (twilight (3pm+)).
| Daypart | Median 6 days out | Median 1 day out | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dawn (before 7am) | $72 | $72 | +0.1% |
| Prime (7–11am) | $85 | $86 | +0.2% |
| Midday (11am–3pm) | $82 | $82 | −0.2% |
| Twilight (3pm+) | $57 | $56 | −0.7% |
Bay Area public courses do not appear to discount into the week, and they do not surge either. The number you see six days out is essentially the number you will pay — so waiting buys you nothing but a thinner tee sheet.
Course by course, weekend prime time empties at wildly different rates. These 12 tee sheets are effectively gone by the night before — if one of them is your course, six days out is not early, it is late.
| # | Course | Region | Weekend prime left | Weekends |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Deep Cliff Golf Course | South Bay | −87.1% | 6 |
| 2 | De Laveaga Golf Course | Central Coast | −83.5% | 7 |
| 3 | Mather Golf Course | Sacramento | −76.9% | 6 |
| 4 | Windsor Golf Club | Sonoma | −75% | 7 |
| 5 | Bidwell Park Golf Course | Sacramento | −73.2% | 7 |
| 6 | Micke Grove Golf Links | Central Valley | −68.7% | 6 |
| 7 | Cypress Ridge Golf Course | Central Coast | −68.4% | 7 |
| 8 | Blue Rock Springs Golf Club (East) | North Bay | −62.7% | 6 |
| 9 | Las Positas Golf Course | East Bay | −61.7% | 6 |
| 10 | Bennett Valley Golf Course | Sonoma | −59.8% | 7 |
| 11 | Riverside Golf Course | Central Valley | −56.2% | 6 |
| 12 | San Ramon Golf Club | East Bay | −48.8% | 7 |
And the mirror image — courses where a weekend prime slot is still there the night before. Some genuinely stay open; a few of these gain inventory as the date nears, because the course releases more slots or takes cancellations back onto the sheet.

The cheapest round isn't the best value — a flat muni at $30 and a championship layout at $55 aren't the same purchase. So we rank courses by how much course you get per dollar: USGA course rating (an objective measure of the golf itself) against live median 18-hole price. Deliberately not a cheapest list. Diablo Creek Golf Course tops it — a 73.3 rating for a $17 median round.
Bar length = value score (higher is better value). The bold number is the score; the smaller grey figure is that course's median green fee. Full ratings in the table below.

Each course's biggest live markdown — 25 of 89 courses with a deal (7,414 qualifying slots). Availability changes constantly; a slot may be gone by the time you click.
Source. Golf The Bay aggregates live, bookable tee-time inventory directly from the booking systems Bay Area courses use (GolfNow, ForeUp, Chronogolf, TotalE, CPS Golf, TeeItUp, EZLinks, TeeSnap, Quick18, GolfBack), refreshed several times a day. The three live chapters read the current snapshot at request time; the price and booking-velocity chapters are fixed, citable editions.
Price levels are a frozen July 2026 snapshot — 35,385 bookable tee times with a listed price as of July 5, 2026, covering July 6–11, 2026. They are held still deliberately so the figures stay citable; availability, value, and deals above them update live. Prices are per-player public green fees; we use medians throughout (golf prices are right-skewed). The Saturday premium compares mornings only, course-by-course; twilight compares each course's 3pm-and-later median against its own morning median. Cart fees are not normalized. The window contains a single Saturday, so read day-of-week findings with that in mind.
What it measures. Since 2026-07-12 every scrape writes an inventory snapshot per course, target date, daypart, and holes. Following one (course, date, daypart) series as its date approaches gives the change in bookable inventory at each lead time. Figures cover 18-hole slots over July 12 – August 10, 2026: 577,100 snapshots, 6,906 complete series across 124 courses.
Net change, not a fill rate. We see how many slots remain, never how many a course opened, so this is bookings minus any inventory released in the meantime. A course that keeps adding slots can look flat while booking briskly — and a handful genuinely finish with more than they started, which is why the slowest table shows gains.
Same-day is excluded, deliberately. Same-day inventory drains because the clock moves, not because golfers booked: by evening every morning slot is in the past. At same-day the total falls from 329,896 slots in the morning read to 24,822 in the evening one while the number of observations collapses from 25,145 to 2,314, because a course with nothing left stops producing a row at all. Including it turns a real −15.2% into a fictional −41%. The curve therefore runs six days out to one day out, where the entire target day is still ahead at every reading.
One reading per day, at the same hour. With roughly nine scrapes a day, an unpinned comparison could measure a 7am reading against a 9pm one and call the difference booking. Each lead time uses the first scrape in the 6–11am Pacific window. Lead times are computed in Pacific time: timestamps are stored in UTC, and the evening runs otherwise land on the next UTC date and invent a negative lead time.
Complete series only. A missing snapshot means a scraper could not reach that course on that run, not that the sheet emptied — a row is written only when there is data. Series are counted only where every lead time from six days to one day was observed, so absence is never read as zero.
Six days is our horizon, not golf’s. We scrape a 7-day window, so this chapter describes the final week only. It cannot tell you what happens a month out, and courses that release inventory further ahead (or, like The Quail, only two weeks ahead) sit largely outside it.
Remaining count of bookable 18-hole tee times starting 7:00–10:59am on the upcoming Saturday/Sunday (Sat, Sep 5 & Sun, Sep 6), per course, ranked by how few remain. This is a remaining-availability proxy, not a fill rate: we can see how many slots are left, not how many a course opened, so a small course and a sold-out course can look alike — which is why we publish the count, not a percentage. Same-day weekend dates are excluded (their mornings are already past).
Value score = USGA course rating ÷ median 18-hole price × 10. We use course rating, not star reviews, because reputational review data is too sparse across our set to rank fairly, while course rating covers three-quarters of courses and measures the golf itself. A course needs at least 10 live priced 18-hole slots (10–19 flagged "small n"), par 68+, and a rating on file; courses missing a rating are excluded rather than guessed. Cart fees not normalized; same-day partial inventory excluded.
For each course we compute a reference median from all its live priced 18-hole slots this week (a course needs at least 10 to qualify, so a thin sample can't fake a deal). A slot makes the feed if it is same-day or twilight (3pm+) and priced at least 15% below that median. Discount is measured against the course's own median so a cheap course doesn't flood the list — only real markdowns do. We show each course's single biggest markdown. 1441 same-day deal slots live now.
Scope. Public and semi-private courses with online tee-time inventory in the greater Bay Area and Northern California, from Sonoma to Monterey and inland to Sacramento and Lake Tahoe. Private clubs and courses without online booking are excluded. Medians are used throughout because golf prices are right-skewed.
