Seascape opened in 1926 as the exclusive Rio Del Mar Country Club, a Willie Locke design laid over the coastal highlands above Monterey Bay in Aptos. World War II interrupted the club's first act entirely: the grounds were repurposed as a victory garden for the war effort. The course reopened in 1957 as Aptos Beach Country Club following a redesign by David Gill, later took the Seascape name, and returned to local ownership in 2018.

The card reads just 6,034 yards, but a 130 slope against a 70.1 rating tells the truer story. Holes run through valley corridors beneath house-topped ridges, framed by Monterey pines and towering eucalyptus, with steady elevation change and small greens whose undulations draw more grumbling from reviewers than any bunker. Golfers single out the 14th, a par 3 of roughly 200 yards playing straight uphill to a green perched atop the hill, as one of the toughest one-shotters they play anywhere. Seascape is walkable if you are fit for it; regulars describe the terrain as hilly but manageable on foot. Pace is generally reasonable, though discounted afternoon windows can bunch up. Recent reviewers rate value highly and conditions good, with soft winter fairways and eucalyptus debris after storms the usual gripes, and they advise abandoning balls that stray into the poison oak bordering some corridors. This is a course that rewards placement and a sharp short game over raw driver distance.
