Municipal Golf, Briefly
What makes a golf course municipal?
A city, county or park district owns the land and the course. Some are run by the owner's own staff, others by a management company under contract or by a lessee. Either way the course is open to the public and the owner sets the fee schedule, which is where resident rates come from.
How do resident rates work?
Residents of the owning city or county pay a lower green fee, usually by showing a resident card or ID at the counter. Some cards cost a yearly fee and cover every course the owner runs; others are free and apply to one course. Proof is normally a photo ID plus a recent utility or property-tax statement at the owner's address.
Are the live prices on Golf The Bay resident prices?
No. The tee-time boards show the standard rate anyone can book, except where a course page marks a resident price beside it. The resident examples on this page come from each owner's own published rate sheet and are checked against it periodically.
Ownership and resident details were read from each owner's own pages and checked November 2026. Know a resident programme we have wrong or missing? Tell us. See also walkable courses, driving ranges and the 9-hole courses of the Bay Area.
