About Mission Hills of Hayward
Mission Hills of Hayward opened in 1999, designed by golf course architect David A. Rainville, ASGCA, working with landscape architect Gary Bye, ASLA, on the flats along Industrial Parkway. It arrived with the late-1990s wave of executive courses meant to speed the game up and pull new players in, and the facility still states its philosophy plainly: golf is a game that should be played for fun.
On the course
The nine measures 1,720 yards at par 30 and offers more variety than most short courses. Six par 3s run from a 92-yard flick to a 164-yarder that wants a committed mid-iron, and three genuine par 4s between 271 and 359 yards put driver, or the decision to leave it in the bag, into the round. The gently rolling ground keeps the holes distinct without ever turning the walk into work.
Who it suits
As a place to play, it is built for the two-hour window. Rounds move quickly, rates stay in the $25 to $29 range, and the Mission Hills Café covers food and drinks afterward. Reviewers point to it as one of the East Bay's friendlier venues for beginners and juniors, with summer golf camps leaning into that role, while low handicappers will treat it as structured wedge practice.
The headline facility is the driving range, renovated with new lighting, turf and netting and powered by Toptracer: ten lower bays carry touchscreens that trace every ball and report ball speed, carry distance and launch angle, with game modes running from closest-to-the-pin contests to virtual rounds on well-known courses. Sessions cost about $10 an hour, and resident instructors teach on-site. Pick Mission Hills to learn the game, bring kids along, or make range night feel like real golf.
