About Las Positas Golf Course
Las Positas Golf Course opened in 1966 as a Robert Muir Graves design on Livermore city land beside the municipal airport, and it has been the town's everyday golf course ever since. The facility has been through two major renovations, most recently a $6 million project across 2011 and 2012 that delivered five new holes, twelve rebuilt tee boxes, new drainage and cart paths, and a turn building at the 10th tee, with a new short Links 9 opening alongside in May 2012.
On the course
The main course plays 6,725 yards at par 72, carrying a 72.0 rating and a 127 slope, on open valley-floor terrain where Livermore's afternoon wind does much of the defending; regulars will tell you a morning round and an afternoon round are different golf courses. Because the 2012 work rebuilt five holes outright, the routing blends Graves's original 1960s corridors with distinctly more modern golf, and multiple tee sets keep the test scaled to the player.
Who it suits
It earns its keep as a daily player's course. The ground is flat enough to walk comfortably, Beeb's, the on-site restaurant and bar, handles the post-round debrief, and green fees undercut the destination courses in the surrounding wine country. Reviewers generally describe conditions as dependable municipal golf rather than boutique, and the spread of tees makes it work for juniors, seniors and back-tee players alike.
The practice setup covers the fundamentals with a driving range and practice green, and the teaching program runs deeper than most municipal courses: PGA professionals give private and group lessons, and the property hosts junior programs including PGA Jr. golf camps. The Links 9 gives beginners a real course to graduate onto before tackling the full 18. Choose Las Positas for a full-length, walkable valley round with every support a developing golfer needs.
