Diablo Creek Golf Course opened in 1963 as the City of Concord's municipal 18-hole course, designed by California architect Bob E. Baldock. In 1990, Robert Muir Graves—a Bay Area-based ASGCA member known for renovating dozens of Northern California municipal tracks—revised the routing, leaving the course with the par-71, roughly 6,800-yard configuration played today.

On the course

The property sits in north Concord along Port Chicago Highway, adjacent to the former Concord Naval Weapons Station, and is one of the few Bay Area courses reachable on foot from a BART station (North Concord/Martinez). The layout is parkland in style and notably flat, which makes it an easy walk but also means drainage can suffer after heavy winter rain. The front nine plays through more open ground with sightlines to Mount Diablo to the south, while the back nine turns tighter and more tree-lined. Wind off the Suisun Bay flats is a recurring factor, particularly on the longer front side.

Who it suits

At 6,866 yards from the tips with a par of 71, Diablo Creek is shorter and more forgiving than most championship-length Bay Area courses, but the par of 71 (rather than 72) and the wind tend to keep scores honest—local players note that even par typically wins the Concord city championship. Amenities include a 40-tee lighted and covered driving range, a large putting green, a full pro shop, and the on-site Legends Sports Bar & Grill. The course is a First Tee and Youth on Course participating facility.
