About Dublin Ranch Golf Course
Dublin Ranch Golf Course opened in 2004 as the first and only golf course in the city of Dublin, designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. and Donald Knott of the Palo Alto-based RTJ II firm. The course was built as the centerpiece of the Dublin Ranch master-planned community on the east side of town, off Signal Hill Drive in the foothills above the Tri-Valley.
On the course
The routing is the course's defining characteristic: a par 63 made up of eleven par 3s, five par 4s, and two par 5s across 18 holes, stretching roughly 4,800 to 5,100 yards from the back tees. That par-3-heavy configuration is unusual for a Jones design and forces players to work through nearly every iron and wedge in the bag rather than rely on the driver. The par 3s are not pitch-and-putt distances either; elevated tees, elevated greens, and prevailing Tri-Valley winds give the short holes most of the course's teeth.
Who it suits
The land itself is rolling hillside on the edge of the Livermore Valley, and holes are routed across ridgelines and small canyons rather than a flat ranch floor, with sightlines toward Mt. Diablo from essentially every hole. There is no driving range on site, only practice putting greens, which fits the course's identity as a quick-round alternative to a full regulation layout. The clubhouse on Signal Hill Drive houses the Hilltop Restaurant & Bar and a small event space, and the property is operated by KemperSports.
Dublin Ranch suits golfers looking for a sub-four-hour round, players sharpening iron play, beginners who want a real but manageable test, and locals who prefer walking-friendly terrain over a 7,000-yard championship course. Low-handicap players treat it as a scoring and short-game exercise rather than a distance challenge.
