About Blackberry Farm Golf Course
Blackberry Farm Golf Course runs along the bank of Stevens Creek in western Cupertino. Its nine holes are credited to Robert Muir Graves; course databases date the layout to 1962, while Forrest Richardson, the architect who later drew a master plan for the site, places it in the late 1960s. The property was privately owned until 1991, when the City of Cupertino bought it. Richardson's plan, presented to the city in 2016, would have rebuilt it as an all-par-3 course with 3-, 5-, 7- and 9-hole loops and a new clubhouse; it was never built, and the course still plays two par 4s. In 2023 the city weighed closing the course and surveyed residents about a nature preserve instead, but golfers rallied and the City Council voted unanimously that October to keep it open.
On the course
The scorecard is unusual: par 29 over 1,544 yards from the men's tees, built from seven par 3s and just two par 4s. The fairways are narrow and lined with mature trees, the greens are small, and accuracy matters far more than length. The USGA rates the blue tees at 28.5 with a slope of 93 for nine holes, so it is not a punishing test, but reviewers note that the firm greens tend to push approach shots off the putting surface.
Who it suits
The practical appeal is a short, low-stress round. Reviewers describe an easy walk with welcome shade from the trees on hot days. Pull carts and rental clubs are available, and four power carts are kept for players with accessibility needs, reserved in advance. Tee times open seven days out, and play runs dawn to dusk. Reviewers generally praise the greens, though some mention repair patches and slower weekend pace.
Reviewers describe the practice setup as a putting green and a hitting net rather than a full driving range, and there is a small golf shop on site. The course takes part in the NCGA's Youth on Course program, offers footgolf, and hosts weekly games for senior groups from Cupertino, Saratoga and the Mid-Peninsula. It suits beginners, juniors, seniors and anyone sharpening iron play and short game, more than golfers looking for a full-length test.
