About Bay View Golf Club
Bay View Golf Club opened in 1978 as Tularcitos Golf Club, and for most of its life South Bay golfers knew it as Summitpointe. That era ended when Summitpointe went out of business in 2019; new ownership bought the property, invested heavily in a renovation that included a modern smart irrigation system, and reopened it as Bay View Golf Club in late 2020. No designer of record survives from the original construction, and it hardly matters: this has always been a course shaped by its hillside site.
On the course
That site climbs the foothills above Milpitas, and elevation defines nearly every shot. The card reads 6,605 yards at par 72 from the back tees, with a 72.7 rating and a stiff 133 slope, and four tee sets run down to roughly 4,800 yards. The front nine gives you room to settle in before the back nine tightens, squeezing fairways through the property's canyon terrain, where sidehill lies and blind angles reward local knowledge. Greens are Poa annua and bentgrass, frequently tiered, and regulars say the constant uphill-and-downhill movement keeps the layout from ever feeling repetitive.
Who it suits
The trade-off is that this is a cart course: the climbs are real, the carts carry GPS boundaries, and few players try to walk it. In exchange you get panoramic views across the South Bay from the upper holes, and reviewers report conditioning has trended upward since the renovation, though the busy putting surfaces do take traffic. It suits golfers who want terrain and variety close to San Jose rather than a flat, walkable muni round.
Practice and instruction are the other half of the operation. A driving range, putting green, and short-game area support the Bay View Academy, which offers certified coaching and hosts elite junior events on the AJGA and JTNC circuits, and the clubhouse holds a pro shop and a restaurant.
