About Coyote Creek Tournament Course

The Tournament Course at Coyote Creek Golf Club opened on September 1, 1999 as the first of two Jack Nicklaus designs at the Castle & Cooke-owned facility on the border of San Jose and Morgan Hill. The Valley Course, also a Nicklaus design, followed in June 2001, giving the club 36 holes just off Highway 101 at the southern tip of Silicon Valley. In 2001 and 2002, the Tournament Course hosted the Senior PGA Tour's Siebel Classic, played across both layouts.

On the course

The routing straddles Highway 101. After a par-4 opener on the clubhouse side, players take a cart tunnel under the freeway to a stretch routed across the lower slopes of the Diablo Range, where grassy creeks cross the fairways and mature oaks pinch the landing areas. The back nine returns to flatter ground near the Valley Course, where four lakes and two waterfalls frame the closing holes. Bent-grass greens are multi-tiered, smaller than average, and well bunkered, putting a premium on an aerial approach to the correct tier.

Who it suits

The finishing stretch is the course's strongest. The par-5 17th is a risk-reward three-shotter with water fronting the green, and the par-4 18th, listed at 433 yards from the tips, is widely cited as the signature hole, with a lake running the entire right side of the fairway and crossing in front of the putting surface. The course measures roughly 7,000 yards to a par of 72, with a course rating of 75.5 and slope of 141 from the back tees.

The Tournament Course suits experienced players who can shape tee shots, carry hazards, and handle wind off the valley floor. Higher-handicap golfers will find the Valley Course the friendlier of the two Nicklaus layouts.
