About Redwood Canyon Golf Course
Redwood Canyon Golf Course opened for play in 1966 as Willow Park Golf Course, designed by the father-son team of Bob E. Baldock and Robert L. Baldock. The course was renamed to reflect its setting on the southern end of Redwood Canyon, an area that was home to thousands of ancient redwoods before being logged in the 1880s. The 18-hole layout sits within Anthony Chabot Regional Park and is operated by Touchstone Golf under East Bay Regional Park District.
On the course
The par-71 routing measures just over 6,000 yards from the back tees, with a course rating of 69.7 and slope of 115 from the blues. San Leandro Creek winds through the property and comes into play on nearly every hole, with fairways flanked by hilly slopes on one side and the creek on the other. Narrow corridors, mature trees, and small greens make accuracy more important than distance. The toughest hole is the 564-yard par-5 ninth, a slight dogleg left with a small green protected by two large bunkers, and the round finishes with a risk-reward par-5 dogleg left that plays under 500 yards from the tips.
Who it suits
Practice facilities include a driving range, short-game area, and putting green, along with a pro shop, restaurant, and banquet space in the clubhouse. The course suits shotmakers and mid-to-high handicappers who value placement over power, as well as walkers who can handle the rolling East Bay terrain. Players looking for a wooded, creek-laced layout that feels removed from the urban Bay Area will find it a different experience from the region's flatter municipal tracks.
