Tracy Golf & Country Club dates to 1955, when Robert E. Baldock laid out the original nine holes south of town and local members built much of it with volunteer labor. Baldock returned to design the second nine, which opened in 1969 and brought the course to a full par-72 championship length. Interstate 580 was later routed through the property, leaving half the holes on each side of the freeway. The club remains member-owned, welcomes public play, and completed a major course reconstruction in 2014.

On the course

From the back tees the card reads 6,852 yards at a 73.4 rating and 128 slope, with five tee sets running down to about 5,181 yards. The ground is mostly flat San Joaquin Valley floor at the eastern base of the Diablo Range, so wind does the defending; regulars say a breezy afternoon makes the course play well beyond its number. Water touches nine holes, played as lateral hazards, and matters most on the par 3s, which run to small, well-guarded greens. The putting surfaces are the calling card: firm, quick, and breaking toward the valley.

The flat routing walks easily, pace tends to move, and guest green fees stay modest for an 18-hole course of this length. The club maintains it in a deliberately low-water, desert-style manner, keeping rough natural and concentrating resources on fairways and greens, so expect honest conditions rather than wall-to-wall lushness.
