About Rooster Run Golf Club

Rooster Run Golf Club opened in 1998 on the eastern edge of Petaluma, where architect Frederick C. Bliss turned dead-flat pastureland into a full-length championship course. The construction crew moved more than 370,000 cubic yards of earth to raise mounds, dig lakes and shape contours, while the three creeks that already crossed the property, lined with native willows, cottonwoods and oaks, were folded into the routing rather than erased.

On the course

The result plays like an inland links, and the wind makes sure of it: the Petaluma Gap funnels ocean air across the open site most afternoons, and reviewers warn that calm days are the exception. From the tips the card reads 7,001 yards at par 72, with 39 bunkers and water waiting on the bolder lines. The signature moment comes at the 15th, where an island green demands a committed short iron, though the greens themselves, quick with subtle tilts, do just as much scoring damage.

Who it suits

The everyday case for Rooster Run is value and playability. It is a walkable, daily-fee course with multiple tee sets that scale the challenge down to friendly lengths, and it has a reputation as one of the better-draining courses in the North Bay, which keeps it firm and open through winter months that close muddier tracks. Mid- and high-handicappers get room to play; the back tees and the wind give better players all they want.

Practice facilities are a strength for a public course: an all-grass driving range, two putting greens and a short-game area with a practice bunker, plus an on-site cafe and a busy banquet center. Pick Rooster Run for a full-length round at a fair price, for winter golf when other courses are soaked, or simply to test your nerve against the wind and that island green.
