About Hiddenbrooke Golf Club
Hiddenbrooke Golf Club opened for play in 1995 as an Arnold Palmer Signature design, with Ed Seay of the Arnold Palmer Group handling the on-site routing work. It is the only Palmer/Seay collaboration in Northern California and sits in a landlocked valley about a mile and a half off Interstate 80, surrounded by roughly 700 acres of permanent open space in Solano County's eastern hills.
On the course
The par-72 layout stretches to 6,782 yards with a course rating of 72.8 and a slope of 142. The round starts on the valley floor and quickly climbs into the surrounding hillsides before returning, producing dramatic elevation changes and numerous elevated tee boxes. Water comes into play on 14 of the 18 holes, alongside heavy bunkering, wooded meadowland and streams that wind through the property. Five par-3s playing in different directions and five par-5s define the character of the routing more than the par-4s.
Who it suits
Notable holes include the 227-yard 17th, a long par-3 from the back tees, and the par-5 16th, whose green is guarded by water left, right and rear and narrows severely toward the back. The round closes on a 560-yard par-5 18th framed by sculpted bunkering. The course is operated by Troon as a daily-fee facility and is owned by McGrath Properties.
Hiddenbrooke suits players who enjoy a shotmaker's course rather than a bomber's track: it is not especially long, but the slope of 142 reflects forced carries, sloped putting surfaces and uphill par-5s that play longer than the card. Five sets of tees on every hole make it manageable for higher handicaps, while the back tees and water-heavy approaches give low-handicap players a stern test.
