About Sierra Pines Golf Course

When Del Webb developed the Sun City Roseville active-adult community in the 1990s, it turned to two-time major champion Billy Casper and architect Greg Nash for the golf. The pair routed their holes through the neighborhoods while deliberately preserving sensitive environmental areas, including a designated bird sanctuary. The 18-hole Timber Creek course came first; in 1998, by the club's own account, the facility added Sierra Pines, a regulation nine with its own clubhouse on Whistle Stop Way (several directories date it to 1997).

On the course

Sierra Pines is a real par 36, not an executive layout. From the Black tees it plays 3,175 yards and rates 35.0/116, with two par 5s and two par 3s. The 540-yard 4th and the 480-yard 6th — the No. 1 handicap hole — do most of the heavy lifting, while every par 4 stays under 400 yards. Like Timber Creek's Lakes nine, the holes are dressed with ponds and waterfalls, river rock lines the left of the 2nd fairway, and out of bounds hugs the surrounding homes. Five tee sets drop all the way to 2,012 yards, where the White markers play as an executive par 31.

Who it suits

Public play is welcome despite the Del Webb setting: walking green fees run $30 before noon and $26 after, with carts $9 when available (they are not guaranteed here). GolfPass reviewers rate it 4.6 stars across 460-plus reviews, consistently praising the greens, and walkers routinely finish in about two hours. Golf Advisor ranked it No. 7 on its Top 25 Short Courses list in 2021.

The shared Timber Creek practice facility features a three-tiered, thirty-station grass range with target greens plus a large practice green with bunker, and four teaching pros work the lesson tee. Sierra Pines fits seniors, newer players, and anyone who wants a legitimate nine — two par 5s included — squeezed into a weekday morning or a summer evening.
