About Silverado Resort - North Course
Silverado Resort's North Course opened in 1955 as the original eighteen at the Napa Valley property, laid out by Ben Harmon and John Dawson on grounds anchored by an 1860s mansion built for Civil War general John Franklin Miller. Robert Trent Jones Jr. redesigned the course in 1966 as a second eighteen, the South Course, was added. The bigger turn came in July 2010, when an ownership group fronted by Johnny Miller bought the resort; Miller lengthened the North by roughly 250 yards, widened fairways, repositioned bunkers, and rebuilt tees ahead of the PGA Tour's return in 2014.
On the course
At 7,226 yards and par 72, the North plays as a classic Napa parkland test: doglegs through mature oaks, water crossings on multiple holes, long par 4s, and greens known for breaks that show less than they move. The layout the pros see keeps evolving, too; ten holes were rerouted ahead of the 2024 Procore Championship, with holes 1 through 7 and the 18th left unchanged. The course record is a 61, eleven under, shot by Chesson Hadley during round two of the 2017 Safeway Open.
Who it suits
Tournament pedigree is the draw. The North hosted the Kaiser International Open from 1968 to 1976 and the Anheuser-Busch Golf Classic from 1977 to 1980, then returned to the PGA Tour in October 2014 with the Frys.com Open, which became the Safeway Open, then the Fortinet Championship, and now the Procore Championship each fall. Public players get essentially the same setup the pros face, and Tour players at recent editions have consistently praised the course.
Practice facilities got the Johnny Miller treatment as well: he lengthened the driving range and added a dedicated teaching area during his renovation, and the resort backs it with a full pro shop. Green fees run at resort levels, so treat it as the splurge round of a Napa trip, best suited to low- and mid-handicappers who want a Tour-caliber examination.
